Purpose of Position
Key responsibilities
- Oversee all daily laundry operations, including washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution of linen and uniforms
- Ensure consistent quality, cleanliness, and presentation of all hotel linen and staff uniforms
- Manage and supervise laundry staff, including scheduling, training, and performance management
- Monitor inventory levels of linen, uniforms, detergents, and cleaning supplies
- Implement and maintain strict hygiene, health, and safety standards
- Coordinate with housekeeping and other departments to ensure timely linen availability
- Operate and maintain laundry equipment, reporting faults and arranging servicing when required
- Control costs, reduce wastage, and ensure efficient use of resources
- Maintain accurate records, including linen counts, losses, and replacements
- Ensure compliance with hotel policies, labour regulations, and operational procedures
Required Qualifications
Essential:
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a laundry supervisory or laundry management role.
Must currently hold a similar role within a 4-star luxury or 5-star luxury hotel environment.
Protel PMS experience is essential.
Strong understanding of hotel laundry operations, linen handling, stain treatment and fabric care.
Experience managing guest linen, restaurant linen, spa linen and team uniforms.
Experience leading a team in a fast-paced hotel operational environment.
Good knowledge of hygiene, health, safety and chemical handling requirements.
Strong organisational and stock-control ability.
Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays.
High attention to detail and pride in presentation.
Must be eligible to work in South Africa.
Preferred:
- Experience in an international or internationally branded hotel environment will be highly advantageous.
- Experience in a luxury boutique hotel, full-service hotel or hotel pre-opening environment.
- Experience with large linen mobilisation, par stock planning and uniform preparation.
- Basic administrative, reporting or inventory control experience.
- Knowledge of cost control, stock rotation, chemical control and operational efficiency.
